Model Overview
The Mercedes G550 is powered by a 4.0L Twin turbo V8 making 416 horsepower which it sends to all-four wheels via the 9-speed automatic transmission. This combination is enough to get the G-Class to 60 miles per hour in just 5.6 seconds, making the boxy SUV incredibly and surprisingly quick. For those wanting comical levels of power, Mercedes has owners covered and then some. The AMG G63 has a 4.0L V8 twin turbo engine making 577 horsepower, it's mated to a 9-speed automatic that sends power to all four wheels.

With such a high base price, standard features on the G550 are abundant. The G550 comes with 19-inch wheels, LED daytime running lights, adaptive LED headlights, keyless start, rain sensing wipers, leather seating surfaces, power heated front seats, a power sliding sunroof, 3-zone climate control, an electrically heated windshield, heated mirrors, a 12.3-inch screen, navigation, hands-free Bluetooth connectivity, a 15-speaker surround sound system, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration. Being a fully modern vehicle, the G550 also comes standard with a blind spot assist system, active lane keeping assist systems, active brake assist with autonomous emergency braking, driver attention assist, a rearview camera, an active parking assistant, trailer sway control (and a trailer hitch) as well as a start/stop system to save a little on fuel.

In order to upstage its less powerful sibling, the AMG model comes standard with a choice of various Nappa leather interiors, one of several premium wood interior trims, 10-way power adjustable front seats with heating, 590-watt sixteen speaker sound system, voice activated controls and 20-inch wheels.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is the most expensive SUV in Mercedes' lineup. Expensive as it may be, it's been roughly the price buyers have been willing to pay for what is both a styling icon and one of the most serious off-road vehicles money could buy. However, the new G-Class generation is essentially better in every single way than the previous generation. Owners will no longer have to deal with atrocious on-road handling, excessive wind noise at highway speeds, and an interior layout that was originally conceived as bare bones transportation. In short, buyers can now have their cake and eat it too. The 2021 G-Class still gives owners all of the looks and off-roading ability of the original, it just adds a healthy dose of modernity to the mix.
